The National Shooting Sports Foundation is holding a webinar to present a number of health-safety best practices FFL retailers and indoor range operators are employing during the COVID-19 crisis.
Attendees may take part in the SHOT University Online live webinar Monday, April 27, at 11 a.m. EST. Reservations are required through this NSSF link.
Paul R. Bastean, Managing Director and Principal Owner of Ultimate Defense Firing Range & Training Center, will walk those attending through a number of health-safety best practices FFLs are employing during the COVID-19 crisis. The webinar is free to industry members, but space is limited.
From command centers to social distancing, COVID-19 has changed the way firearms retailers and ranges operate throughout the country. Bastean will discuss how to develop and implement:
— Integral command center and social distancing procedures for your indoor firearms range, retail and training environment;
— Product handling and cleaning practices to keep your buyers and employees safe;
— Methods to manage the influx of new buyers and keeping them engaged beyond the crisis.
Ultimate Defense Firing Range & Training Center is an NSSF Five Star Rated Range-retail Business located in St. Peters, Missouri. Bastean is also the Managing Director of Heritage Estate Services and Firearm’s Appraisals and maintains a commission as Sergeant over the Special Operations Division for the Lake St. Louis Police Department.
Prior to 2010, Bastean recognized a severe shortage in quality training in the civilian sector. He set in motion the monumental project that became Ultimate Defense Firing Range & Training Center. Through his leadership and vision, Ultimate Defense has become one of the leading institutes for training in the United States. In 2015, Ultimate Defense was nominated as the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s Range of the Year.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it an intense stream of communication, especially those messages aimed at personal safety. But hand washing and social distancing are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to keeping you, your staff and your customers safe.
To enhance your safety processes as we continue to work though these coming months, the attached guidelines for FFL retail and range operation spaces can be added to or integrated with your current safety plans, as well as printed out for employee distribution and posting in breakrooms, warehouses and other staff gathering places.
To date, NSSF has been successful in having firearms businesses listed as essential and/or operating in nearly every U.S. state. However, poor social distancing practices at retail and range establishments could reverse that trend and result in many of our industry’s businesses closing.
Carefully evaluate all local, state and federal guidelines for personal and public safety, and, in addition to implementing best practices. Craft a health safety policy for your business that meets those criteria and ensure your staff and customers follow the procedures you implement.
