Reviewed: New SilencerCo Suppressors

SilencerCo has become an industry giant among suppressor manufacturers. From the company’s modest and humble beginnings of working out of a garage to now having one of the largest and most innovative manufacturing facilities in the nation, they have always maintained an innovative approach to bringing the highest quality suppressors to the market. SilencerCo is composed of shooters and hunters who are strong supporters of the Second Amendment. Their relentless passion for the shooting sports industry has enabled their company to zero in on the exact needs of shooters everywhere, providing products that are serious game changers.

I had the privilege of attending SilencerCo’s recent media event held at Gunsite Academy in Paulden, Arizona. Gunsite is one of the nation’s leading firearms instructional facilities providing training to elite military personnel, law enforcement officers, and civilians. Media events held at Gunsite are invaluable, as each writer is able to utilize products within a Gunsite training class, giving them hands-on experience while also learning proper training techniques.

This specific SilencerCo event was combined with a three-day carbine training class. Armalite provided each participant with their M-15, 16-inch LTC (Light Tactical Carbine) rifle. The LTC is light and modular, and has a very sleek profile — which proved beneficial for a three-day carbine training course. Each rifle was equipped with a SilencerCo suppressor, an EOTECH or Vortex optic, and triggers from Timney Triggers. Timney Triggers states they are committed to producing the world’s finest triggers. Timney is ready to stand behind this commitment with a lifetime guarantee. In the event your  customer’s Timney triggers become damaged or defective, the company will repair or replace the trigger at zero cost to the customer. Timney manufactures triggers for target shooting, competition and hunting. My concentration for this article will be on one of their AR triggers, the Impact AR Trigger.

Timney’s AR triggers are divided into three categories. Good – Industry Level, Better – Industry Standard, and Best – Premium. The Timney Impact Triggers fall into the Good – Industry Standard category with an MSRP of $143.99. This is where performance meets price. The Impact has a set pull weight of 3-4 pounds, offers a crisp, clean break, and will drop into all mil-spec ARs. All components are captive in the lightweight, aluminum alloy housing. The hammer is wire-EDM machined from S7 tool steel that combines hardness to resist wear and offers impact resistance withstanding heavy use without chipping or breaking. Other components are EDM cut from A2 tool steel, then heat treated to Rc 56-60 for long service life. The Impact trigger installs using your customer’s rifle’s original hammer/trigger pins as Timney’s proprietary design eliminates pin walkout. This is a quality, cost-effective, reliable trigger that Timney states have been an overnight success — 76 years in the making.

Now let’s move into the meat of the article, SilencerCo Suppressors. Shooting suppressed is one of the most enjoyable shooting experiences any shooter could have — so much so that it is often difficult to return to shooting unsuppressed. Contrary to what some of your shoppers might believe, obtaining a suppressor is not an impossible feat. If you’re not currently selling them and not up on the process, suppressors are legal but regulated by federal law on a state-by-state basis by the National Firearm Act, (NFA) branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE). To purchase a suppressor, one must be a resident of the United States residing in one of the 42 states that allow civilian ownership and be able to legally own a firearm. Additionally, the buyer must be able to pass a BATFE background check and be at least 21 years of age to purchase from a dealer or be 18 years of age to purchase from another citizen. This along with the proper paperwork and a $200 tax stamp will get your customer on the road to suppressor ownership.

Choosing a suppressor, especially from SilencerCo, is a much easier and more enjoyable task than filling out the paperwork. SilencerCo has done an incredible job providing educational materials and thoroughly detailed website descriptions to help each individual figure out what works best for their needs. There are three specific models that stood out to me during this event.

SilencerCo Osprey 2.0

The unique shape of the Osprey makes it the only multi-caliber polygonal pistol suppressor on the market today. The monocore baffle design in this polygonal package allows for greater internal volume, which equates to better sound performance. The Osprey 2.0 uses a single button to properly index to a firearm. This makes the Osprey more robust and more reliable and allows for quick and secure alignment. This makes the suppressor more repeatable, enabling the shooter to more consistently put it in the same position on every firearm. It also offers an eccentric offset design, allowing the use of most factory pistol sights. The Osprey 2.0 is compatible with pistons and fixed barrel spacers and can be shot wet or dry, with an MSRP of $840.

SilencerCo Chimera

The SilencerCo Chimera offers zero barrel restrictions with .30-caliber versatility. This is one of the best choices for your customers’ short-barreled or fully automatic guns. Rated for full-auto fire and compatible with .22 Hornet to .300 WM, the Chimera is usable on a variety of hosts. It truly sets the standard for .30-caliber durability. The fully welded stainless steel tube and a mixture of Cobalt-6 and Inconel baffles provide needed strength without adding unnecessary weight. The Chimera is shipped with the reliable quick-attach ASR Mount and a 5/8x24 muzzle brake for easy installation and is compatible with Charlie mounts and front caps, and all ASR muzzle devices. This is one of SilencerCo’s most versatile suppressors, and it carries an MSRP of $970.

SilencerCo Switchback 22

If you have a customer looking for the best-performing rimfire suppressor on the market, look no further than the SilencerCo Switchback 22. The Switchback 22 was inspired by technology used in rocket and jet propulsion. When oriented in one direction, the front section exhibits the most competitive sound reduction available for pistols. When the orientation is flipped, the result is an unprecedented sound reduction on rifles. The Switchback 22 is modular and lightweight, enables unmatched sound reduction, provides three distinct lengths, and is compatible with .22 LR, .22 WMR, .22 Hornet, .17 WSM, and 5.7x28mm. The Switchback 22 is constructed of two titanium tubes that interface through the use of a connecting stainless steel baffle. It features stainless steel baffles internally that utilize SilencerCo’s Click Together Assembly (CTA) design. This design coupled with the high-strength materials provides proven durability even under hard use or full-auto rates of fire. The Switchback 22 has an MSRP of $540.

SilencerCo Hybrid 46M

The SilencerCo Hybrid 46M is the first truly modular large-bore suppressor. It is a light, compact and modular centerfire rifle suppressor that offers the versatility to use on most rifles, pistols and subguns. The Hybrid 46M allows for the removal of a front module, which allows the shooter a shorter and lighter suppressor body that still effectively suppresses all centerfire pistol cartridges as well as rifles as large as .45-.70 Govt and .458 SOCOM. The Hybrid 46M is rated for centerfire pistol and rifle calibers including .45 Auto, 10mm, .450 Bushmaster, .458 SOCOM, .45-70 Govt, .338 LM, and up to .460 Weatherby Magnum, and has an MSRP of $1,117.

These are just a few of the many offerings SilencerCo included in their Gunsite media event. Having the ability to consistently train and shoot for literal hours proved their reliability and dedication to quality. Beyond the three days of training, SilencerCo provided a final media day where we were able to shoot a multitude of rifles and pistols utilizing the varying suppressors they provided. Gun after gun, suppressor after suppressor, only made me more impressed with their technology and advanced innovation. If your shoppers are looking to join the ranks of the “suppressed shooter,” SilencerCo should be among the first companies you check out. Not only do they offer a trusted product, but they also provide the needed education and guidance that go hand in hand with suppressor ownership.
